Confront
Amir confronted his biggest fear when he realized that the Taliban guard that he was talking to was Assef. Amir had always run from confronting what he had seen the night Assef raped Hassan. His past feelings and guilt arose and he was forced to face his worst nightmare. "I tried to take a breath and coulcn't. I tried to blink and coulcn't. The moment felt surreal- no, not surreal, absurd.." (The Kite Runner 281)
Empathy
In Rahim Khan's letter, Amir Jan shows empathy towards Amir for having to live all his life trying to get the attention of his father Baba. "Amir Jan, I know how hard your father was on you when you were growing up. I saw how you suffered and yearned for his affections, and my heart bled for you" (The Kite Runner 301). This letter was written by Rahim Khan explaining to Amir that he is a lot like his father. He feels sorry for Amir for having to live the way he did all throughout his life.
Appease
When Amir and Assef are fighting to the death, Sohrab tries to appease situation by pleading "Stop hurting him" (The Kite Runner 290). Sohrab is doing everything that he can to stop Assef from killing Amir. He yells stop and points a slingshot with a brass ball in it towards Assef's eye.
